In a remote village in Vietnam, parents went to extraordinary lengths to make sure their children could attend school, even carrying them across a flooded river inside plastic bags. ❤️ The remarkable scenes were documented in 2018 in Huoi Ha village, located in Vietnam’s mountainous Dien Bien province. During the dry season, children could cross the Nam Chim stream using a temporary wooden or bamboo bridge. But when the rainy season arrived, rising water and powerful currents made the crossing extremely dangerous. With no reliable bridge available, some parents resorted to placing their children inside large plastic bags and carrying them through the water, keeping them dry while navigating the dangerous current themselves. And crossing the river was only part of the challenge. According to local reports, the journey to school stretched approximately 20 kilometers (12 miles) through mountainous terrain and slippery roads, sometimes taking up to five hours. Because the trip was so difficult, many children stayed at school throughout the week and returned home on weekends. Local authorities acknowledged how dangerous the plastic-bag crossings were, but explained that even rafts could be swept away by the current. Residents had been asking for a safer bridge to connect their village to the surrounding area. For these families, something as ordinary as getting their children to school required an extraordinary amount of effort and risk. Could you imagine having to make a journey like this just to get an education? ❤️ #Vietnam #EducationMatters #Parenthood #HumanStories #InterestingFacts
