Young Sheldon is an American coming-of-age sitcom and a spin-off prequel to the popular show The Big Bang Theory. It chronicles the childhood of the eccentric genius Sheldon Cooper as he grows up with his family in East Texas during the late 1980s and early 1990s.
The series begins with 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper (played by Iain Armitage) skipping four grades to start high school alongside his older, less-intellectual brother Georgie. The show explores the challenges Sheldon faces as a child prodigy who struggles with social norms in a community where "church and football are king," while his family tries to understand and deal with his unique personality. Jim Parsons, who played the adult Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory, narrates the series, offering insights and reflections from the future.
The series concluded its run with its seventh and final season, which aired its one-hour finale on May 16, 2024, consisting of 141 episodes in total.
A spin-off series focusing on the lives of Georgie Cooper and his wife Mandy McAllister, titled Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, premiered in October 2024.
